SCIE

SCIE is the flagship Web of Science Core Collection index for science, engineering, and medical journals.

Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) is the flagship science-and-applied-fields index within the Web of Science Core Collection. It covers selected journals in physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, clinical medicine, and many interdisciplinary areas. SCIE indexing means a journal has met Clarivate’s editorial and citation-impact expectations; many institutions therefore treat SCIE as a top-tier signal.

For SCIE journals, Journal Citation Reports publish Journal Impact Factor (JIF) and quartile values. Those metrics describe relative standing in a subject category; they are not proof of any single article’s quality. Still, journal choice, incentive schemes, and promotion files often ask for SCIE plus a quartile. SSCI plays a parallel top-tier role for the social sciences, while ESCI hosts earlier-stage journals that already clear a quality bar.

SCIE coverage is narrower than the broad science collections in Scopus. “In Scopus but not in SCIE” is common and not a data error—it reflects different selection policies. For search, SCIE offers a high-signal core; you widen coverage with Scopus or subject databases. Before submitting, confirm SCIE status via the Master Journal List or a trusted catalog.

In Turkey, engineering and health fields frequently reference SCIE indexing in evaluation rules. JCR quartiles (Q1–Q4) are usually discussed for SCIE/SSCI titles; arts and humanities follow a different Impact Factor culture under A&HCI. This site’s journal catalog aims to show WoS edition membership alongside JCR rows. Read SCIE together with the Web of Science, JCR, and Impact Factor entries.
